The Shower That Changed My Business

There are two kinds of showers I remember.

The first is every shower I've ever taken because I needed to get clean.

The second happened a few months after my youngest son, Carson, was born.

At the time, life felt like survival.

I had a preschooler. A newborn. I had recently stepped away from my corporate career. I loved being a mom, but somewhere along the way, I couldn't remember where I had gone.

My own needs had quietly slipped behind everyone else's.

Then one afternoon, I found myself standing in the shower, crying through another anxiety attack.

Not because anything dramatic had happened that day.

Just because everything had finally caught up with me.

I knew my husband had the boys.

I knew I could stay in the shower a little longer.

And for the first time in months...

I let myself.

The Shower Wasn't Different. I Was.

Instead of rushing through everything like I normally did, I slowed down.

I washed my hair without thinking about the next thing on my to-do list.

I shaved my legs.

I exfoliated.

I actually noticed the scents instead of racing through my routine.

When I stepped out of the shower, I wasn't ready to jump right back into mom mode.

So I took another minute.

I rubbed on body crème.

I painted my toenails.

I simply stayed present.

Did it magically fix my anxiety?

Of course not.

Did it solve everything I was carrying?

Not even close.

But for the first time in a long time...

I felt like myself again.

Even if it was only for a little while.

That One Shower Changed More Than My Afternoon

Looking back now, I realize that shower changed more than my day.

It changed the direction of Simply Stated.

When we first started this business in 2015, we talked a lot about ingredients.

Handmade.

Natural.

Essential oils.

Those things still matter to us. We still formulate intentionally. We still choose ingredients we feel good about putting on our own skin.

But over the years, I realized something.

People weren't buying body crème because they simply needed lotion.

They weren't reaching for a shower steamer because they needed to smell lavender.

They were buying something much deeper.

They were buying permission.

Permission to slow down.

Permission to breathe.

Permission to spend three extra minutes taking care of themselves without feeling guilty.

That realization quietly reshaped everything we do.

Self-Care Doesn't Have to Be Complicated

Somewhere along the way, self-care became another thing we feel like we're supposed to do perfectly.

Bubble baths.

Spa days.

Weekend getaways.

Two-hour morning routines.

And while those things are wonderful...

They're also unrealistic for most of us most of the time.

Real life looks different. Life with kids looks different. Life with aging parents looks different. Life is simply different for each of us.

Sometimes self-care is simply exfoliating in the middle of the week instead of rushing through your shower.

Sometimes it's putting on body crème before climbing into bed.

Sometimes it's choosing a scent that makes you pause for five seconds, nostalgic even, before stepping back into your busy day.

Those moments count.

In fact, they're often the ones that matter the most.

The First Domino

Looking back, I don't think that shower was the finish line.

It was the first domino.

After that came more "everything showers" for me. I simply told my husband that I needed it to feel like a human again.

Then meal prep slowly came back into our routine.

Movement came back to help with the daily anxiety and stress.

Learning about boundaries came into play for the first time in my adult life.

Taking care of my mental health became something I prioritized instead of postponed.

None of those things happened overnight.

They all started with one simple decision.

Giving myself permission to stay in the shower for three extra minutes.

That's why Simply Stated still exists today.

Not to convince you that our products will fix your life.

Because they won't.

But they can help create small moments that remind you to come back to yourself.

And sometimes that's exactly where real change begins.
